Key Highlights from the 2025 Future Forecast:

Dr Ben Hamer’s report is based on extensive research, including insights from a nationally representative survey conducted by YouGov of over 1,000 Australians. Here’s a sneak peek at what’s shaping our future:

  1. Cautious Optimism About the Future
While 87% of Australians are concerned about the state of the world, a notable 66% still feel optimistic about what lies ahead. Interestingly, Gen Z leads the way, with 77% expressing a hopeful outlook.
  2. Overwhelmed by Change
The rapid pace of change has left 68% of Australians feeling unprepared for the future, with 59% citing it as a major concern.
  3. Economic Worries Take Centre Stage
Inflation (67%), housing affordability (60%), and global economic conditions (57%) rank as the top issues. Millennials and Gen Z voters are expected to play a pivotal role in next year’s federal election.
  4. Technology Divides Generations
Tech pessimism persists, with less than half (48%) of Australians optimistic about AI. Millennials (66%) are far more optimistic compared to Baby Boomers (28%), highlighting a generational divide.
  5. Trust and Misinformation
More than three-quarters of Australians (78%) are unsure of who or what to trust online, with calls for stricter regulations on misinformation and social media use.
  6. A Shift Toward Simplicity
The analogue awakening is here, as 64% of Australians aim to spend less time online in 2025, favouring “unplugging” through activities like using simpler tech or silent walking.

Ben also explores lighter yet thought-provoking trends, from what colours we’ll wear (hint: yellow is in!) to how we’ll travel and consume media in 2025.
