26 August 2022 marks Wear It Purple Day which is celebrated around Australia to raise awareness for the work that still needs to be done to combat the violence and discrimination facing the LGTBQI+ community mainly those younger who are still finding their feet. Wear It Purple Day strives to foster supportive, safe, empowering, and inclusive environments for rainbow young people.
According to Minus18.org 66% of LGBTQIA+ youth in Australia still experience bullying based on their identity, but 97% of youth who attend Minus18 report an improvement in their mental wellbeing.
