Community is at the forefront of AFLW player Alyce Parker's story.
Growing up in country NSW on a farm, her life revolved around sport and family and Alyce not just enjoyed, but flourished, in the rural lifestyle and local community she was a part of. It was this connection to her home in Holbrook NSW that saw Alyce initially struggle with her move to Sydney when drafted by GWS in 2018. However, her love of footy and determination to be a successful AFLW player helped Alyce through those early days of adaptation to city life. She also developed herself a new community within the environment of the football club and the girls she played with, which contributed to her sense of belonging.
Alyce has actively prioritised creating a positive, proactive attitude towards her mental health and wellbeing. Her resilience and self-awareness has seen Alyce achieve great success on the field, winning back-to-back club Best & Fairest and All-Australian honours, and finishing second in the AFLW Best & Fairest count in 2021.
She is well placed to speak on high-level time management skills, balancing study in Agricultural Sciences, along with professional football competition and training and the seasonal demands of the family farm. Alyce has learned to adapt, embrace and thrive in the uniqueness of her dual country and city lives.
