Charlie and Michael (aka Husbands That Travel) initially started their Instagram to document their year travelling around Australia.
They were struck by the lack of LGBTQIA+ representation in Australia's media, and so have made it their aim to increase the diversity of Australia's media, starting with travel. “When people don't see people like them in mainstream media, they don't feel like that media is relevant to people like them, or that people like them would be actively welcomed by that organisation. We working to change that”.
Charlie and Michael have grown a very engaged and loyal following with a whopping 31% engagement rate and 240k accounts reached per month on their instagram. Their LGBTQIA+ community have expressed they have strong fears and anxieties around expressing themselves when travelling to new places. As such, Charlie and Michael have made it their aim to connect LGBTQIA+ community with truly inclusive organisations who actively welcome the LGBTQIA+ community to be their full selves.
Charlie and Michael plan is to travel through South Australia, to Victoria, Northern Territory, and Tasmania over the next 6 months. In the lead up to World Pride in Sydney 2023, they will be in NSW and Queensland, putting inclusive organisations and holiday destinations on the radar of the national and international LGBTQIA+ community.
