When it comes to the conservation of our natural world, the time for action is now.
Dr Chloe Buiting is on a mission to help people, wildlife and the planet thrive. As a wildlife veterinarian, conservationist, published author and director of Fauna & Flora – the world’s oldest international conservation organisation – no two days are the same. Chloe’s time is divided between working on the frontline of wildlife conservation around the world, including dehorning rhinos in South Africa to save them from poachers, and working with Sir David Attenborough to conserve wild species and spaces. In addition to this, she is also an Official Advocate for Kensington Palace’s prestigious Earthshot Prize, and is the youngest person to hold an Australian public Board position, which she does as a director of Zoos Victoria.
As a veterinarian, Chloe has been fortunate to work on the frontline of wildlife conservation around the world and has seen the extent of our current biodiversity crisis first-hand, along with the far-ranging implications it has for us all. Her work sees her combating rhino poaching in Southern Africa, treating great apes in West Africa, training with the world-famous, all-female anti-poaching group the “Black Mambas” in Greater Kruger National Park, and fitting elephants with prosthetic legs after stepping on landmines in Asia.
Outside of clinical veterinary work, Chloe relishes her role with Fauna & Flora. Under Vice President Sir David Attenborough, she works to conserve wild species and spaces by working with local communities on capacity building, empowering them to take the conservation of their local ecosystems into their own hands. She is passionate about the role wildlife conservation has in mitigating the climate crisis and is cognisant the dependence of rural communities on the health of the natural world.
Chloe is also passionate about science communication and enjoyed sharing her work in her book ‘The Jungle Doctor’ published in May 2021. 100% of the authors' proceeds have been donated to a selection of conservation initiatives worldwide, and the book has now undergone its first translation as of 2023. Additionally, Chloe has amassed a following of over 400,000 people on social media. Her work has been featured in many media outlets worldwide and she starred on a Times Square Billboard Campaign in April 2024. She regularly features as a guest on the ABC, as well as the NY Times, news.com.au, and Today Show.
Chloe’s passion for wildlife conservation undoubtedly originated from her childhood on Australia’s beautiful Lord Howe Island. She feels fortunate to work in these diverse capacities in the conservation and sustainability spheres and enjoys connecting with like-minded people.

She attended Trinity College from 2010 until 2012 and says attending the college gave her the confidence to apply for veterinary school, and gave her a community for life.Meet the vet who dehorns rhinos to fight the poaching crisis | SWNS
A veterinarian is helping save Africa’s endangered rhinos by removing their horns to deter poachers. Dr. Chloe Buiting, 31, is a part of a team in South Africa working to combat the poaching crisis that has seen the rhino population devastated. The country, which is home to 93% of the continent’s white rhinos and 39% of its critically endangered black rhinos, has been the epicenter of the crisis. Since 2008, the poaching numbers have skyrocketed with 13 rhinos killed in 2007, 83 in 2008 and over 1,200 in 2014.
