Profile

At the age of 32, Jay Stevens was an active husband, father, and accomplished athlete. With a promising junior athletics career behind him, he had transitioned into a successful sales career in the medical device industry. Married with children, Jay's life seemed to be on track for continued success.

However, tragedy struck when Jay's world was turned upside down in an instant. A devastating helicopter accident left him paralyzed and doctors informed him that he would never walk again. This life-altering event forced Jay to confront the fragility of his existence and reevaluate his priorities.

As a young husband and father, Jay's focus shifted from career success to rebuilding his life and overcoming the immense physical and emotional challenges that living life in a wheelchair presented. Through unwavering determination and resilience, he embarked on a journey of rehabilitation, ultimately learning to walk again after four years.

Jay's story is one of triumph over adversity. Though faced with seemingly insurmountable obstacles, he refused to let his circumstances define him. Instead, he chose to embrace the challenges as opportunities for growth and transformation and 2 years after learning to walk again became the first paraplegic to walk up to Mt Everest Base Camp without a wheelchair.

Today, Jay shares his inspirational story with audiences around the world, motivating others to persevere in the face of adversity and to never give up on their dreams. His message resonates with anyone who has faced a life-altering event or is simply seeking inspiration to pursue their goals with renewed vigor and purpose.

Talking Points

Contemplate the price you pay for inaction

Why does it take tragedies and signifcant events of challenge and adversity for us to remember whats important and how we want to get to whats important.

Sometimes it takes these events for us to bring into focus the price you will pay for not taking action today towards your goals and dreams.

Choosing your regrets

Suffering a spinal cord injury and being told I would never walk again I had to really focus on what regrets I wanted to have. The biggest fear and regret I had would be if there was more recovery potential to walk again and I never gave everything to that goal.

Using your Darkside Energy

How your past losses, failures and challenges build the foundation for your character growth. Find an ultra succesful person or company who has not tasted and then used challenges, adversity and failures as its biggest motivator in its toughest times.

Overcoming Fear

Getting back on a helicopter again and overcoming my biggest fear.
Feedback
We were fortunate enough to have Jay speak at our Company Launch meeting last week in Sydney. He was given a standing ovation on the night but the lasting and profound impact that a number of people have shared with me after the event has been unexpected and amazing for some individuals in our group of 130 people. Jay talked about determination, grit, motivation and harnessing dark side energy. What an incredible human and an impactful story. I will tell everyone I know about Jay, his impact will last a long time for me and many others in the rooms that night. Incredible story, incredible human. Thank you Jay. Enovis Australia
