Having been a star of women's football long before the AFLW competition kicked off, Kara Antonio has extensive experience as a female navigating her way through a male-dominated world.
Current Work:
With an interest in inclusion and equality, Kara has put in place numerous strategies to break down gender barriers and has used these to forge a successful career with Fremantle Dockers.
It is for her natural leadership that Kara is most well-known, having led the club as captain since the AFLW club's inception in 2017. In 2019 she received an Emerging Leader Award at an AFL industry function for her impressive community work.
Her leadership is demonstrated through example, in the way she plays, trains, and prepares herself as a professional athlete and her willingness to help teammates and mentor younger players. As a football coach and teacher at SEDA College WA, Kara has numerous interests outside of her AFLW career, providing her with balance, skills, and a positive outlook towards her eventual life beyond football.
