Profile

Few players have transitioned as seamlessly into the media as Luke Darcy. Known for his articulate analysis and deep understanding of leadership and high performance, Darcy built a respected career in broadcasting after retiring from AFL at the end of 2007.

His versatility saw him contribute to various networks, initially providing special comments for Ten's AFL coverage. During this time, he co-hosted One Week At A Time and The Fifth Quarter, covered the ANZ Netball Championships, and was part of the network’s broadcast team for the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

In 2012, Darcy joined the Seven Network, where he became a key commentator for their AFL coverage. He was also a major presence on radio, playing an integral role in Triple M’s Hot Breakfast alongside Eddie McGuire and calling Friday night AFL action.

Beyond media, Darcy is passionate about leadership and personal growth. He is the Co-Founder of Aleda Collective, a business dedicated to helping individuals and teams develop high-performance leadership skills. As host of the Empowering Leaders podcast, Darcy engages with some of the world’s most influential thinkers, athletes, and business leaders to explore what it takes to lead with impact.

On-field, Darcy played over 200 games for the Western Bulldogs, following in the footsteps of his father, David. Making his debut in 1994, he emerged as one of the AFL’s leading ruckmen, winning the Bulldogs’ Best and Fairest in 2001 before earning All-Australian selection and the AFLPA MVP award in 2002.

After enduring two knee reconstructions in 2005-06 while serving as Bulldogs captain, Darcy used his time off-field to refine his media skills, setting the foundation for his successful post-playing career.

Luke also currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Western Bulldogs.

Beyond football and leadership, Darcy is an entrepreneur, with his company, the Darcy Group, owning several of Melbourne’s most well-known hospitality venues, including the Precinct Hotel in Richmond, Motel in South Melbourne, and Melbourne Public at South Wharf. He lives in Melbourne with his wife Rebecca and their four children, Sam, Sienna, Will, and Max.
