Mollie O’Callaghan was born in Queensland, she began swimming at the age of four and entered her first competition three years later.
Mollie’s international career began in 2019, at age 15 when she took part in the World Championships in Budapest, Hungary for the Australian national team. Now just five years later, Mollie is a two time Olympians with a total of 8 Olympic medals, 5 of them gold.
At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Mollie brought home two gold medals and a bronze at only 17 years old – the youngest member of the squad. Mollie swam in the heats of the 4 x 100m freestyle relay (gold), 4 x 100m medley relay (gold), and the 4 x 200m freestyle relay (bronze).
It was at the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, that Mollie stamped her place on the world stage. Mollie took home and incredible five gold medals, two of them being the individual 100m and 200m freestyle events. Mollie also broke the longest standing women’s World Record in the 200m freestyle, which officially makes her a dual individual World Champion, and a World Record holder. Mollie and her relay teams also won gold and smashed the World Record in the Women’s 4 x 200m, 4 x 100m and Mixed 4 x 100m freestyle events.
2023 also saw Mollie awarded the Olympic Program Swimmer of the year for the second year in a row. She was also awarded the Performance of the Year Award at the Australian Institute of Sport Performance Awards.
At the recent Paris Olympics in 2024, Molle won an incredible 5 medals – 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze. At just 20 years of age, Mollie sits fourth on the list of Australia’s most successful Olympians.
