Sue Brierley was made known globally by the 2017 Oscar-nominated film Lion' as the Australian adoptive mother of Indian-born Saroo. The child of refugees from Hungary and Poland, Sue grew up in Tasmania in difficult times with little support in an isolating environment and poor language skills before moving to a property where her father could start a business.
A huge change in her mindset saw Sue rebel against the injustice of her life inspiring and motivating her to change her life completely. During this difficult time, she had a wonderful vision come to her and she knew then she did have a future with happiness to come.
After marrying her husband John, they waited patiently for 16 years before adopting a child named Saroo from India. Saroo arrived 7 months after applying, bringing and amazing experience into her life. 2 years later the family welcomed their 2nd son from India, Mantosh.
In 2012 their world changed completely when Saroo found his birth family in India, making global headlines. Sue has embraced this as an opportunity to share her life and family choices with the world after Saroo wrote a best-selling book called A Long Way Home later inspiring the film Lion.
