Communicate for Impact

Public speaking and presenting to an audience can be really difficult. It is the number one fear for many people. With so many individuals needing to present publicly either for a conference, an event, within their workplace, or for an assignment, you want to have the confidence and the skills to smash it! Given communication is one of the most important skills in our workplaces, it is critical to invest in this space.

This session provides the audience with an engaging and practical program to enable them to speak up, show up and make an impact with their voice and words. Your audience will leave this session knowing how to prepare for their next communication opportunity and practical tips and tricks to share your ideas out loud.

Craft Messages that Matter

We have important messages to share but often we fail to articulate our words in a way that allows us to make the biggest impact. In our workplaces and in our lives, we communicate in many different forms and in many different environments. But our communication isn’t just a helpful skill, it’s an imperative tool to progressing forward. The most critical thing is being able to connect with your audience and communicate in a way that reaches them. That is understood by them. That connects with them.

Crafting a message that is simple enough to understand, but also packs a punch is a difficult task. Our messages can make an impact. But how can those messages be heard?

In this presentation, we work through how you can simplify your language to amplify your message. We work through my 5 'C' methodology working through (1) clarity, (2) conciseness, (3) creativity, (4) confidence, and (5) connection to demonstrate your awesome skills and value to those around you.

Turning the Technical into the Practical: Communication Success

Communication is the key to action. Almost everything we do requires some form of communication. In a professional position, being an excellent communicator means you are able to get more done and achieve outcomes. In life more generally, being able to communicate well assists with being able to progress further; getting the basic things that you need.

Where you are not understood or where there is a gap between what you are intending to say and how it is received, there can be a significant power imbalance. There is nothing worse than the feeling like you are not understood. Particularly for those people who use technical language in our jobs, we do not want what we communicate to be “gobbledygook.” You need to cut through the bull to be heard and recognised.

How Our Words Say More Than You Think

The language we use and things we say can have a bigger impact that we may realise.

The tone in which we deliver our messages is also a critical factor.

This session works through a range of interesting stories, case studies and examples to demonstrate the importance of our day-to-day communication putting it and us under the microscope to enable us to understand what our words can really do.

Feedback
In the lead up to our internal engineering conference at Xero, we were lucky enough to have Theo work with our internal presenters through a workshop on public speaking and presentation skills. Theo’s delivery of the workshop was seamless and highly valuable. Theo has the ability to deliver his workshop and pass on his expertise in a safe yet effective manner. Our internal presenters learnt a lot, and gained a great amount of confidence through Theo’s workshop. The skills they gained from working with Theo really showed when the presenters delivered their presentations to a large audience. I highly recommend Theo as a public speaking coach and speaker. Xero

Theo is an incredible speaker. I’ve had the opportunity to attend to one of his talks and I was simply blown away by his ability to not only capture, but retain people’s attention and create an impactful experience. I seriously recommend getting Theo as a public speaker for your event and generally speaking having him as a trainer for your team on communication.

Law But How?

You were able to make a a conference which people may not necessarily consider to be fun to be a really enjoyable experience. Being able to hear your entertaining and insightful bits between sessions was so good, not to mention your positive and welcoming nature made it a great time. As a delegate, I thoroughly enjoyed having you as our MC and wouldn't have wanted it any other way!
